Missions:
  • Cacheola (coop)
  • Moonless
  • River Assault
Comrades, don't be fooled by the short missions list! Tonight, we had one of our best ever (if not best) playercounts for a session that wasn't a joint one with MARSOC etc. Around 15 simple farmers played tonight, and with no small amount of skill: we managed to beat all three missions, none of which are simple affairs. Excellent work, comrades! Write-up(s) to follow ...

Cacheola (coop)

- Charlie FTL: Fer
|-- AR: DM
|-- AAR: General Carver
|-- AT: Mort

Using the Hummers, our squad-sized force moved south to the villa and took up a roughly wedge-shaped position facing the AO. Almost at once, the M2 gunners began engaging targets, and Headspace ordered all FTs forward to begin our sweep. Within my FT, Charlie, we quickly established a two-element set-up with mort/GC as driver/gunner, and DM (AR) and myself as dismounts. In 5 minutes we had successfully engaged 2-3 groups of EI in our area alone, and quickly found ourselves moving almost too far south. Returning to my Hummer after successfully chasing and shooting down a lone runner, I nearly jumped out of my seat as the .50 call appeared to open-up on me. Then I noticed a man standing metres to my left, and that he was being shredded by fire from GC's M2. Gulp! Sadly, my luck didn't hold: minutes later as we prepared to assault a group of EI we'd located, a lone rifleman rounded the corner and took me out before DM ventilated him. The lesson, comrades, is never to check your map when the enemy is around the corner!

:suicide: (but only for me)

Moonless

- MAT: Fer

Igor's plan called for a classic L-shaped ambush of the enemy infantry column, with mort (MMG) and myself (MAT) forming the short-arm of the 'L' at the bend in the road north of our starting position. In the event some fireteams ended up south of the road, and the enemy troops were spooked before reaching the optimum position. Nevertheless, with our satchels, RPGs and sheer volume of rifle fire, we'd wiped out the enemy in minutes. Soon we had moved onto the main valley, with fireteams either side of the road. My own orders were to RV with the sniper team, where I noticed that the spotter, Banshee, had an unscoped FAL. Our swap of weapons didn't quite go to plan; so whilst Banshee got the nightscope, I was down to just my RPG-7 launcher (much to the amusement of Igor). With no regard for personal safety, I joined Igor and Housemaster as they moved down the slope towards the town. Though I picked up an AK-47 from a dead EI, most of my work was done with RPG-7s: first an AAA truck, then a supply truck, before finally I found myself on a lone mission to take out the AAA truck to the north-west. I blew it up just fine, but as I was calling-in the success, someone blew my head clean off. Oh well. The rest of our force completed the mission moments later.

:hist101:

P.S. Yes, I did actually switch the moon on for that run-through, on the grounds that it should make it easier for the EI to see us. And we still owned. It's unacceptable, really. We didn't set up folk for this kind of competency to become the norm. Disgraceful.

River Assault

- Bravo FTL: Fer
|-- AR: HoJo
|-- AAR: Tigershark
|-- RPG: ChiefBoats

The grand old duke of General Carver,
He had ten thousand fifteen men,
He marched them up to the top of the hill,
And he marched them down again.

And when they were up, they were up (and pouring literally thousands of rounds down into the valley),
And when they were down they were down (i.e. bleeding to death in a meadow),
And when they were only halfway up,
They were neither up nor down (because their M113 was stuck).

To be clear: we fired a lot of bullets, and whoever was on the mortar team got some amazing hits in on the enemy positions at the dam, and we completely won this time around. Super, super work, comrades!

:clint:

Next time, comrade Housemaster is going to make T-90s rise up out of the riverbed ...
