Missions
- Rebound
- Dolina Dash
- Outpost Bean
- Slippery Eel
- Fuel Raid (After-session Party)
A lovely thank you to the 43 comrades who showed up at today's session! We started with one hell of a Co-Op mission in Rebound, wherein we took a very scenic route to the city and then got progressively more and more shot up. Then to Dolina Dash, where despite some horrific attacking situations, the UN managed to wipe out all but two (2) of the defenders! Outpost Bean saw the MPs get slaughtered by better equipped Bean Bandits on the way to some fabled boats. Slippery Eel finished it out, with Aziz evading the American devils, but abandoned by the posh UN chopper that he was supposed to board.
After session, a gang-raid against the fuel station of "Proving Grounds" ended relatively quickly when Danny climbed into a tower and got shot, while the rest of us dudes ran for the hills in panic.
Again, thanks for attending, and I hope to see y'all again later this week!

Dolina Dash
UN Commander. Despite the (disputed) loss, I'd like to say we did a very good job. We lost Bravo extremely early on and managed to inflict heavy casualties on the enemy from a weak position. Credit to Ferrard for keeping everyone organised while we were being shot to pieces.
We then risked the wrath of Strang and strayed very close to the border, but got a good position on the factory. We moved in, cleared, had a bit of confusion, then ran into a stalemate on the upper floors. Server went funny, people died, we lost, but the team deserves credit for the clearing the first line of bunkers despite the disadvantages and running the enemy down to just two players.
What I learnt in the previous week's workshop session was incredibly useful in this mission. Without it, I'm sure Alphas job would have been considerably harder.
Outpost Bean
Engineer team leader. We planted some mines, didn't really get to use them. I instructed my squadmates Labbes (sp?) and Soviet Sandvich to meet and move with me after the order to go south was given, and they both died suddenly and mysteriously. I joined bravo in their glorious crawl and we all died.
Slippery Eel
Pretty much the opposite of Dolina Dash. I gave a masterclass in how not to command - comms fuck-ups were numerous, orders contradictory, I fell straight into a blufor trap, and we were left underarmed, spread out and fighting an overwhelming force.
Credit to Waffly for sorting out the shitstorm and escaping following my death.
Apologies to people who got obviously irritated by the lack of a cohesive plan or structured orders.
Fuel Raid (After-session Party)
We spotted targets. I shot a target. More targets sneaked past us. We lost.

This AAR is going to be a bit of a short one, you'll have to wait for others to post if you're looking for epic narratives. In order of occurrence -
Rebound (Alpha 3 Automatic Rifleman)
This mission was a BLAST. Half the fire-team got killed quite early, with Toppo and I being the survivors. Toppo, you get SERIOUS credit for your handling of our little team. In two situations I ended up in beautiful firing positions on top of rooftops after conquering the deadliest enemy of all (Ladders) and was able to lay down actually useful support fire with my M249 and later a looted PKM*, scoring 19 kills. That beats my previous personal record by... 16 I think? Fun stuff.
Dolina Dash (Bravo 1 Automatic Rifleman)
This mission... I can see what it was going for. That being said, between the charming pregame racial caricature contest and the actual proceedings of the mission itself I didn't have fun with this one. Died to friendly fire, but it was a bit of a mutual misunderstanding. I didn't realize anyone was in the bunker I was falling back to, so I didn't call in to let them know I was coming. Guy inside heard a small snippet of chatter as I was talking to my team, and no acknowledgement of friendly status. Communications had broken down, people were getting flanked, and then he sees a guy dashing into his bunker after hearing folks outside. Completely understandable. Didn't fire a round or see a target. Spectating the showdown in that factory was pretty neat, though.
Outpost Bean (Bravo 2 AT Soldier)
Madness. Glorious, glorious madness. I assume someone's going to youtube it, and going there is almost certainly better than attempting to read about it. I never did figure out who was shooting in Cherno...
Slippery Eel (Bravo Cell)
Was out of play for the first portion of the mission on technical difficulties, and came back a bit frazzled, as was my FTL Draakon. Sorry about that. Died shortly later, which turned out to be for the best as I got to spectate both Toppo's last stand and Waffly + Macaco's end run back and forth accross the map to freedom. Fun times, crashing aside.
Fuel Raid (Indy Medic)
I was psyched to discover I had a PP-19 at the start of this - that thing is the coolest and I didn't even realize it was in Arma. Alpha team was getting hit hard, and our glorious leader sent me to go back them up. It was several steps out of the supermarket when the drugs began to take hold. Disoriented by the purple haze of post-apocalyptic filters and having trouble navigating, I think I blundered into the ENEMY position rather than Alpha's, and was gunned down before getting to fire a single round. Tragedy. HAWKS FOREVER!
* Actually managed to type RPK here when I was first doing the AAR. Not sure how that happened, but anyway, the general story of that is in the Looting thread Macaco started.

This'll be a short one.
Missed the workshop this week out of bad timing. Planning to come back next week though.
Rebound - A3 AAR
We hauled up onto the top of the valley and covered the other Alpha fireteams as they bounded down the road. Made some decent progress, then when we turned into the village killa got taken out, I shot the Taki that got him, and then was killed by another.
Dolina Dash - A2(?) AAR
Bounded up the hill, took out one or two bad guys, there was a bit of a row on VON over a friendly fire, then I got pinged from absolutely nowhere. Still impressed the UN pushed up as well as they did.
Outpost Bean - AR, can't remember squad
'Ooh I think I'll be an AR this mission I GET AN AA12 INSTEAD THIS IS EVEN BETTER'. We get assigned to the sector from whence nothing came, then when the call to head south came in I ran too far ahead and got slaughtered. My own fault.
Slippery Eel - B1 AR
Deploying on the roof of a villa via littlebird makes me feel much cooler than I actually am. We touch down, watch the horizon for a while, then get relocated to the airfield, push into Zargabad from there, where Danny gets killed. We keep advancing, then I'm taken out by friendly fire and decide to call it a night.
I think dying in every mission might be a new personal record but had fun regardless. Good session.

Workshop
First time taking part, was pretty fun, did the fire maneuver thing, watched how to clear a compound and was the first to die in the "real" mission. No idea what got us, looked like the sentries on the hill we were so warned about. Also watched in horror how 2 fireteams were stacked up near a small archway, trying to clear a compound - 1 grenade could have taken out 2/3 of a squad

.
Rebound
CO
Yes, I am responsible for the scenic route. I thought that a straight on attack direction would have lot's of defenses, so I took the northern route. Standart Alpha on one side of the road, Bravo on other, attack. I told HMG and MMG to take positions high on the hill as soon as we met resistance. MAT was holding back for the inevitable armor. Well turns out that side did have a little less defenses - a few squads and an MG bunker. But the horrible, horrible mistake was that we were engaged from two sides now that we were perpendicular to the village - from the left and right. MMG was the first to die (RIP), then bravo took heavy casualties (RIP BSL). When bravo cleared the immediate enemies, I got them to steer around into the village and go parallel with Alpha - with whom I lost contact after ASL died. After a while (okay a very long time) we cleared the first village, everything was fine (not counting dead MMG, Bravo being 7 strong, and Alpha a little more), we started to advance on the next enemy position.
Then came the hint message that a counter attack was imminent. I quickly ordered for the squads to dig in and for MAT to prepare for the incoming armor. I myself did what a CO probably shouldnt do - I looted a PK from a dead enemy and started to mow down the incoming enemies. A few minutes later someone shouted - "TANK", and I took a bullet to the face.
Yeah, I don't know about this one. In hindsight I should have maybe not have been a smartass and attacked from the proper direction

. My communication was also rough - sorry guys, too much information

. Also I think I tried to micromanage the squads too much, my bad if I was bugging the SL's too much and distracting them from doing the important stuff

Final thing about support elements - I should have designated which support element is the leader from the start and just talked on CC with the leader with the other supports being under the leader, kinda like a DC, but it looked like Support had a democratic election and their representative was Strang so it kinda worked out in the end.
But to end on a happy note, we did win this mission, although we lost almost everyone.
Will add more later

I've started a
feedback thread for Slippery Eel as the mission's not quite working out as I intended. Any ideas appreciated.
