Concept: the invite
Re: Concept: the invite
Really looks cool.
Re: Concept: the invite
In reference to another thread ( http://www.ferstaberinde.com/folk/forum ... p?f=5&t=18 ), I am wondering - what are the thoughts on you having to enter your invitee's nick first?
I'm not liking the logistics of it, but there is a risk that the join site would be proliferated by either ex-members or through some mistake (IRSSI likes to paste whenever you right-click, for example. I always ensure my clipboard is not holding anything 'sensitive' before I go anywhere near IRC these days, and I run mIRC!)
It also adds an extra element to be considered, although it's not too difficult to set up an SQL server that contains all 'acceptable' nicknames, etc. It adds an extra level of automation, but on the other hand I think one of the most awesome strengths folk is going to have is that very lack of automation - everything is handled through the hosts, so you never have to fight with a machine.

Re: Concept: the invite
Do you mean something like: you can't read the pages unless you enter (or select) the name of a current guest? Like a sort of security measure?Xiathorn wrote:In reference to another thread ( http://www.ferstaberinde.com/folk/forum ... p?f=5&t=18 ), I am wondering - what are the thoughts on you having to enter your invitee's nick first?
Re: Concept: the invite
Yes. I'm not convinced it's a good idea, but it could protect against random emails from people who haven't actually been invited.
Re: Concept: the invite
That's a risk, but if somebody leaked the email address itself we'd be vulnerable to random emails anyway - regardless of any security we place on the invite pages. Unless you still feel strongly about this, my suggestion is that we start simple and only implement more security if we encounter significant issues.
Re: Concept: the invite
After going through the Invite page, I have to say it worked as you intended. It was far more interesting than the usual "recruitment pages", if it can even be compared. At any rate, it's pretty unique.
Re: Concept: the invite
Nah, I'm not really happy with the idea of having to put in the name of the invitee anyway. I'm a little concerned about it, but as you say we can fix it if it happens rather than preparing for something that may not happen at all!Unless you still feel strongly about this, my suggestion is that we start simple and only implement more security if we encounter significant issues.
