New Server Test: [Sun] 12 June 2011

Post by fer » Sat Jun 11, 2011 3:57 pm

When is the test?
The regular Folk ArmA 2 session on Sunday 12 June 2011 at 19:30 UK (20:30 European) will be run on the new servers.

New servers? Is this both ArmA 2: Combined Operations and TeamSpeak 3?
Yes, we will be using new game and VOIP servers during the test.

What are the addresses?
Here are the details you require, comrade:
ArmA 2: Combined Operations
Address: 46.105.98.126
Port: 2402 (note this differs from the default 2302 port)
Password: freedom (same as before)
TeamSpeak 3
Address: 46.105.98.126:9988
Password: freedom (same as before)
Are the rules about permitted client-side addons/versions the same as before?
Yes, please connect using vanilla or with authorised versions of STHUD and CBA.

Is anything else going to be different about this session?
No, although you may want to investigate setting yourself up to use Channel Commander in TeamSpeak 3 as there is a remote possibility that we will use it. The new TeamSpeak 3 server has different permissions, allowing anyone to toggle this feature.

So, why is all of this happening then?
The new set-up provides a capacity increase of 44 slots. With 64 slots we could build an unstoppable Tractor Rifle Brigade!

Who do we need to thank for this?
All good comrades are advised to make a point of thanking Comrade Admiral Nullkigan for his heroic efforts in the engineering compartment. However, the hatches are to remain sealed. Server K19 must complete its maiden journey on time.

:science101:

Edit:

So, how do I set up Channel Commander?
It's pretty straightforward. To begin with, you need to choose a key which you'll use as your PTT button for Channel Commander and set up whisper-list. Here's how:
  • In TS3 go to Tools > Whisper Lists (Ctrl+Shift+W)
  • Click on New (in the bottom-left of the dialog)
  • Set a Hotkey (the suggestion is: H)
  • Set Whisper to: to Groups
  • Set Group Whisper Type: to Channel Commander
  • Set Group Whisper Target: to Complete Channel Family
  • Click OK
You're now set up to use Channel Commander, but there's one last step: to use it you need to toggle it on. You have two choices here:
  • Right-click your name in the playerlist and select Channel Commander
  • Set-up a hotkey (or combination, such as Shift+H) to toggle Channel Commander on/off
If you opt for the second, here's what you need to do:
  • In TS3 go to Settings > Options (Alt+P)
  • Select Hotkeys from the icons on the left-hand side of the dialog
  • Click Add to add a new hotkey (it's the Add button on the right)
  • In the dialog that pops-up click on Show Advanced Options and the list of possible Actions will expand
  • Under the action Channel Commander select Toggle Channel Commander
  • Now set a hotkey or hotket combination (the suggestion is Shift+H)
  • Click OK, then click OK again to exit the Options dialog
Also, you will want to do this:
  • In TS3 go to Settings > Options (Alt+P)
  • Select Whisper from the icons on the left-hand side of the dialog
  • Under Settings for Received Whispers uncheck Always show whisper history when receiving a whisper
  • You may also wish to uncheck Play notify sound when receiving a whisper, or you can change the sound played under Settings > Options > Notifications > Special > Incoming whisper

Fer, you missed a step!

By default, teamspeak will pop up a notification every single time you are whispered to.

So,
  • In TS3 go to Settings > Options (Alt+P)
  • Select Whisper from the icons on the left-hand side of the dialog
  • Under Settings for Received Whispers uncheck Always show whisper history when receiving a whisper
  • You may also wish to uncheck Play notify sound when receiving a whisper, or you can change the sound played under Settings > Options > Notifications > Special > Incoming whisper
I also just found out that you can have the notification system read out by Duke Nukem if you set Settings > Options > Notifications > Sound Pack > Default Sound Pack (Male) instead of (Female). This is rather, uh... :psyboom:

Edit: Note that there is a difference between Channel Family and Complete Channel Family in the Group Whisper Target dropdown. Let us consider the following example:

ArmA 2
- Team One
-- Squad One
-- Squad Two
- Team Two
-- Squad One
--- Support Element One
-- Squad Two

Here, if someone in Team One, Squad Two uses a Complete Channel Family whisper, they will be heard by people in the entirety of the ArmA 2 channel, including Team Two, Squad One, Support Element One.

In contrast, if they used Channel Family instead of Complete Channel Family, they would be heard by Team One, Team One Squad One, Team One Squad Two. That is, parent, siblings and subchannels.

However, if the same list was used by Team Two Squad One Support Element One, they would only be heard by Squad One, not Team Two or Team Two Squad Two.

At least, this is how I think it works.

Oops! Thanks for that additional information, comrade admiral Nullkigan.

Comrade Jefke and I tested this out, and it works slightly differently (and somewhat counter-intuitively). Going by your example set-up, a Complete Channel Family would be Team Two and all its subordinates (and their subordinates) - not all the channels under ArmA2 (if ArmA2 is the root channel of the entire server). So I believe the original set-up instructions should stand - with the addition of your points concerning how to disable the whipser notifications.

Tried PMinf Fer but message sat in Outbox - What kind of ship you running here? I'm looking forward to joining a FOLK ArmA 2 session soon with my CO download almost complete - damn those village BB speeds. Then I have the learning to do of course...I do need to know which Mods you recommend or are compulsory on the FOLK server? Do you guys play with ACE2 installed? Anything else? I installed Battleye as it looks like common on servers.

No addons, just vanilla Arma2 Combined Ops. No we don't use ace2 or any ace. The server does have a opptional addon. But you don't need it. Here it is http://www.ferstaberinde.com/folk/forum ... ?f=6&t=213
So I gotta go. We are low friction gaming group of guys. We all have families and that does come first with us. Fer is rather busy expect his next child any day now or already has. Might be hard to get ahold of him. I'll try and help as much as I can. I now have a toddler climbing over me as I type this. But you can find us on Sunday's game times....

I hope I answered most of your questions and concerns correctly for you...

Thanks for stepping up, comrade G, and apologies to comrade Haito - I was out on business for all of yesterday.

The bottom line is that all you need is ArmA 2: Combined Operations (which is ArmA 2 and ArmA 2: Operation Arrowhead run together) and the latest version of TeamSpeak 3. BTW, if you want a reliable way of getting the game to launch in Combined Ops mode, try Spirited Machine's launcher.

As comrade G suggests, you can opt to run STHUD and CBA, but to begin with I'd recommend you connect with a vanilla set-up and take it from there. Note that the server will not allow you to connect if you are running any other mods (e.g. ACE2, custom sound packs etc.).

The next session is on Sunday at 19:30 UK, but if you hit us up on Skype you may well get some ad hoc action going on a weekday night. Looking forward to seeing you in-game soon!
