ArmA2: crosshairs consultation

I'd like crosshairs to be disabled on the folk server ...

Only during the next joint session(s) with MARSOC

ArmA2: crosshairs consultation

It's fair to say there are those who feel so passionately about ACE2 that they won't play (because the loss of stamina systems or weapons resting spoils the game for them). Equally, there are those in both communities who simply have no interest in TvT or coop, and won't show.

It's unfortunate if not everyone wants to participate in the joint session as currently planned, but in working with the admins from MARSOC I had to go for a setup that would be acceptable to the majority of players from all sides. If it so transpires that most folk guests find the joint session is spoiled by the revised setup, I'm sure they will be vocal and we can revisit it (just as the MARSOC players may find they can no longer live without addons and decline future invitations). I hope it won't be too dramatic, but at very worst, all we shall have lost is one Sunday session.

Mort, this might all be moot for you, anyway, as IIRC you're not back in time to play on the 13th. So normal service will have resumed when you next pick up your trusty AK.

I vote for option 4: I dont really care either way.

Its doesnt really affect me or my style of play, but i'd rather have mort than the marsoc guys (no offense either way)

I don't know the history of this discussion but going from ACE2 to vanilla is a huge difference in gameplay. I mean really freakin' huge.

It's OK Fer. It's OK.

I get the reasoning for and against. Overall, I am a fan of keeping crosshairs - I think that realism and making the game harder is definitely a worthy pursuit, but due to the limitations in the ArmA engine I feel that crosshair removal extends 'realism' at the expense of accessibility, to far too great a degree.

That said, I am willing to play without crosshairs if it makes things easier for MARSOC. They're ditching ACE for us, so it's fair enough for us to make a gesture in return. I am confident that, however I feel about losing my crosshairs, MARSOC will feel worse about losing the enormous functionality ACE can grant.

Of course, this is all academic as I still won't be playing. Fucking laptop.

If I can make it, I'll play with or without crosshairs. However crosshairs are a very useful means for pointing, accessing game objects and orientating direction as well as for aiming that I feel the lack of crosshairs is arguably going to cause an increase in frustration as it's considerably harder to control the in game character without them.

I would add a second point here which is that, in terms of gameplay - the MARSOC milsim approach is generally a handicap. This is a computer game, not real warfare. As an effective 'infantry' simulation, all things considered, Folk seems to have the upper hand as its players are relatively unburdened by the notable lack of radio comms acting and micromanagement. (I suspect there may be less squad administration of a real life fireteam than in a MARSOC one :P).

I'm all for disabling the crosshairs if it means that much to them.

If I can make a suggestion of my own - give them the same loadouts that we use...

I normally don't make a fuss about anything gaming related because it's just gaming but disabling crosshairs is a complete redline issue for me.

At most I can find time for a single gaming session per week. Disabling crosshairs makes an already clunky and buggy game unplayable for me and there is no way I am going to waste my time making myself even more of a walking range target than I am already. I will find something more interesting than a military wannabee session to do - like watching floorboards warp.

As I understand it MARSOC want to use the ST fireteam HUD which is an unrealistic aid to SA (which is fine by me if it can be set up) but don't want to have crosshairs because it is an unrealistic aid to SA.

Consistency is great isn't it
