Planning a joint session with LDDK ....

What's the deal?
The deal is that we have been offered the opportunity to hold another joint session with our friends at LDDK.

Ah. Sorry, no thanks, I didn't really enjoy it last time.
Woah there, hold up for a moment. There were certainly some challenges with the last joint session, but I suspect we can address most (even all) of them.

I'm half-listening. What have you got in mind?
Just off the top of my head, I think we could improve things significantly by asking for the following:
  • Enable unit tags (so you can tell who's standing next to you)
  • Enable the crosshairs
  • Permit the use of STHUD (and @CBA, which it requires)
  • Select missions that feature group markers
Okay, those things might help address my concerns. But what about the missions?
Cacheola worked okay (in both our last joint sessions), so we should be fine without any changes to that. Cinderella could do with a change to both the OPFOR starting position and a downgrading of BLUFOR's IFV to something less potent. If we played the LDDK A&D mission, I think we could work with them on the addition of features like group markers, spectator script .. and maybe some tweaks (like the removal of OPFOR rockets).

Is MARSOC coming?
They're invited, but I don't yet know if they're going to attend. I assume they will have to have a discussion like this one.

Alright, what do you need from me?
I'd like to ask for two things from all interested comrades:
  • Any thoughts on server settings, missions, comms or other factors that you think might improve the session.
  • An indication of whether or not you'd like to attend a joint session.
Okay, I'll have a think.
Thanks. BTW, do please remember that LDDK and MARSOC admins have access to this forum.

I agree with the tags switch. That didn't outright kill it for me but it did make things harder to deal with. But, the main issue for me was the comms...it seemed like when we used the MARSOC TS3 that only a small percentage of people had the whisper settings configured or knew how to properly use them. I was whispering to people and getting no response, so the only recourse I had was to resort to ingame von and text.

I don't have a problem with their TS3 settings as a concept. That sort of setup may work fine in a more tightly knit group of people where you have required instructions and training and protocols...but for a joint thing where people are picking up and diving in it was chaotic. We need to find a more vanilla comms setup for this one.

I would love to attend a Joint session. Are there any thoughts on a date yet?
Anyway.. i'll do my best to be there!

As for the comms; I have had no experience with the MARSOC settings so I don't have any suggestions on that...oh and not that it would matter since we're probably already dead before we exit the chopper

I've got a lot of travel coming up in the next few months, but if I can make it, I'll try.

We should set some ground rules about how long we should wait for people to join too. It was SUPER FREAKING TEDIOUS to wait 25 - 40 mins for the mission to start, just to be killed within the first 5 mins...

Otherwise, the other changes will hopefully improve things. (Although I guess this would be a make or break the joint sessions for me, if this one sucks too then I wont be attending any more joint sessions...)

I weren't in the last session, but I'm up for it. Joint sessions are always fun.

Server settings don't matter to me, I'm more used to playing with the no crosshair, no tags, no group markers kind of settings anyway. Though I've never understood the deal with disabling 3rd person.

I'll give it another try but only if we're going to be firm with ppl who don't join the server in good time. I make a point of being 5 mins early for everything in life including gaming and expect others to show the same degree of courtesy to me. I'm not going to wait 40 mins or so staring at the wall while a load of schoolgirls try and get their shit together because their time is apparenty more precious than mine.

It's looking like it will only be LDDK and Folk, which means we can expect slotting to be far faster than before (but probably no faster than in a standard Folk session).

From the Folk side, I will ask that guests show up on time and having read the relevant forum post. If you turn up 10 minutes late and ask what server we're on, we'll send Comrade Mrs Jefke to your house with whatever weapons she uses to keep comrade Jefke and his 4 children in line. You will not be expected to survive.
