ACE2 or Vanilla OA?

Given that OA is due to ship at the end of June (today's press release from BIS says the title went gold yesterday), how do people feel about folk launching with vanilla OA as its platform? That might make it easier for people to join sessions (because they wouldn't need to worry about having the correct build of ACE2, or mainting multiple copies on their machines). On the other hand, we don't know how good OA is compared to ACE2. Thoughts?

If I am brutally honest, it can't be any worse. ACE2 is a complete travesty in my eyes, and I'm utterly disappointed with it. I feel the same way about vanilla ArmA2, so that's not so much a reflection on the ACE2 team as it is on the complete package.

OA is either going to be great, or I'm going to be stepping away from the ArmA series. That puts me in somewhat of a biased perspective, but I think it's important that we grab the bull by its horns and just go for it. If OA sucks, it sucks.

However, more pressingly - it gives us a deadline to work towards, which is always good to have, and it's going to be much easier to set up an OA server than it will be to set up an ACE2 server. Get our feet wet before we jump in, etc.

I may re-visit this in a bit, had a bitch of a day so perhaps I will feel more charitable later.

I think we should initially go with vanilla OA. It may not live up to it's hype but maybe that won't matter too much if we're enjoying the gaming as sometimes it's more about the people you game with than the actual game you play.
And running vanilla OA would probably mean less updating than trying to update ACE2 all the time.

+1 for vanilla OA.

Although...until it is released on Steam could we either
a) revert to vanilla ArmA2
b) postpone session launch until release.

I just don't trust installing anything over Arma2 downloaded from Steam other than mods.

OA should definitely be more playable/accessable than ACE2. Its shaping up pretty good so far.

Remember the part where this was going to be like an invite-only bar or club, with only good people allowed? :siiigh:

Vanilla OA. ACE 2 would require Yoma sync because I am absolutely not in favor of asking people to use whatever abortion of an installer they have currently switched to--all conjecture of course, given that I haven't bothered with any of their installers or updaters in over a year.

I really, REALLY like ACE2.

My computer has been out of action for about 2 months, so unless I've missed any major fuck-ups from ACE2 in that time, I would say that ACE2 is still amazing.

However, OA is something of an unknown quantity. I would absolutely be up for giving vanilla OA a try, considering the purported extra features it has. I think at the moment this group is in a priveledged position to be able to try anything without any serious consequences (and hopefully it will continue that way), but I have to admit I've always loved the crazy features that ACE has added to ArmA/ArmA2.

So I'm up for either really, but the more variants of an AK-74 I can get my hands on the better, in my humble (and minority) opinion =)
