Excellent session, although we missed Boberro :(

So I'm with Boberro: the music played in the vehicles at the start of Washington's Arbitration makes this mission the hands-down winner for atmosphere. This was a lovely mission, very much in the emerging style of Folk: a small band of brave criminals go to the town of Bagango, attempt to murder some soldiers at checkpoints, and almost succeed. I was leading this one, and after we'd driven to a hilltop villa to get a better view of the town, we walked into the town with the intention of clearing the checkpoints in a clock-wise movement. The two firteams would move in bounds, and it was alll going to be excellent. Sadly, the troops clocked us before we could begin things on our own terms, and a messy firefight ensued. I was hit peering around a corner, and gradually collected friendly bodies around me (harakka, wafflynumber) until I ran out of blood. From spectator it looked amazing, though. Looking forward to playing that again!

Speaking of playing things again, finally I got to make Cholo 2017. It's a reasonably faithful remake, featuring the same location in Zargabad and shotguns for the cops. In this case, the cops were Kefirz and Wafflynumber, and they were very effective with those shotguns. I should know, as I took a handful of buckshot to the face whilst peering around yet another corner (this was a pattern). Later, the surviving gang-bangers did exactly what they're supposed to do: used the SMG to suppress the cops whilst one of their number - MrKev - ran into the station itself. What followed was MrKev's brutal, execution-style killing of Waffly, before a more honourable face-to-face shoot-out on the rooftop at point-blank range. And Kefriz blowing him away.

Next up, yet another new mission. Svinets I, which follows on from Zelenyy III, had us liberating some captured trucks from a nearby roadblock. The sun was rising over the treetops, bathing the fields in its beautiful golden light. And the enemy was thus very hard to see, so we had to use a lot of bullets. Unfortunately for me (the mission maker) and Bodge (the mission CO), the enemy had heard our BMP from a very long way away, and was therefore expecting us as we attempted to ninja our way in. Lots of shooting from hedgerows and a few RPG shots later, and we had made it to the roadblock. The good news was that we'd only managed to accidentally destroy one of the precious fuel trucks. The bad news was that a KORD had sliced Bodge in half and close range. Still, we chalked it up as a win.

In Zelenyy I we got the full version of this wonderful song ...

.. which is now the official theme song of 17 Рота. Anyway, our squad leader Bodge decided to try something new: we would ride the BMP up the hill until halfway through the woods. Then the infantry would dismount and screen the little BMP as it moved west through the trees, and then swung north to attack the TV tower complex from a new direction. And it was going great. The infantry line followed brave Bodge up the slope and watched him poke is head over a rock at the crest. And then watched his body riddled with fire from a sentry on the other side of the same rock. And then watched his lifeless body dance about some more as the sadistic AI put even more rounds into it. And then we learned some tough lessons about attacking uphill, or having some dude in the TV tower firing down at us. Or both. It was a bloodbath. But the little BMP that could rolled up the hill undeterred. Tougher than your average BMP, this little IFV took a few rockets and countless UGL rounds to the face, though eventually Waffly - the sole surviving crew member - was forced to run his enemies over because he could not gun and drive at the same time. Eventually, and after taking a somewhat peripatetic route, the little BMP ascended to the complex, executed an impressive 360 degree barrage of cannon fire and disgorged its complement of assault troops. Which was Waffly. Who was promptly shot.

So we laughed a bit, and then went back to Malden and played Assault again. This time, I was leading and also wanted to try something new. After the obligatory run through the woods and attack on the roadside bunker, we melted back into the trees and moved west up the slope to the high bunker. With colour teams moving in bounds, and UGL rounds and grenades flying, we advanced bravely up the slope and took this bunker too. Bodge had died, which was a shame, but I think Kefirz grabbed his AR and soon we were all facing back down the slope, trading fire with targets in the town and on the hillside. The enemies advanced up the hill, and we cut them down. The enemies drove truckloads of reinforcements in from the north, and we used HAT rounds to destroy them before the troops could disembark eventually. Finally, we were down to just 4, so I did the only logical thing: I ordered us to attack. We ran a little further north to the little hamlet, then swung east and descended towards the town. All along the way we fought running battles with a handful of soldiers on the hillside with us. Finally, with the town barely 200m away, some more enemy reinforcements arrived. I ran in front of my own AR's fire, because I am stupid, and was shot some more by the enemy. Our attack was halted shortly afterwards. Oh well. Next time!

Next it was back to Green Mountain for another round of Zelenyy III, now with added music and flares. ASL Bodge divided the colour teams up into two small, terrified groups that took up positions near the compound entrance looking in opposite directions on the road. The enemy took a while to reach us, and then it was anarchy. I shot three times as many Obscuristanis as Americans, which just goes to show that you shouldn't give PKMs to cowardly men in dark situations. Or any situation. Still, somehow, we survived the attack, as well as Bodge's attempt to recreate some kind of mid-90s dance video by standing atop a burning flare.

Finally, in the obligatory run of Old Men, Bodge's mixture of audacious Metal Gear Solid style sneaking past patrols and relentless pace got us within sight of the airstrip. Unfortunately, we also found ourselves in the perfect overlap of two vehicles' fields of fire. And died. But as I was bleeding out, this is what I saw:

Last night was fun. Thanks to one and all!

Don't really have much to say other than Svinets I was gorgeous! I'd even go so far as to nominate it for the "Best Atmosphere in a ROF Mission so far" award. Keep making good stuff, Fer.

I didn't see Fer's new mission, but I heard enough of crappy music in Arbitration to know who really won atmospheric mission award.
Delete this marker please. You're scaring the tank.
