Post by boberro » Sat Oct 10, 2020 10:57 pm

Let's get back to writing forum post, shall we?
Tonight we had 7 brave souls joining us to wreck havoc on Ruha, Malden and Livonia. Thanks to Bodge, Fer, Harakka, Krok, Neddy Fox and Teizan for showing up and (hopefully) having fun!
Mission List:
  • Airsoft - Sawmill by Boberro (Ruha)
  • Expressmen by Bodge (Ruha)
  • Ground Team by Bodge (Livonia)
  • Pin by Teizan (Livonia)
  • Hasty by Fer (Malden)
As always please share your thoughts, opinions, experiences, videos and screenshots in this thread.

Soundtrack for this week is Beatles' 1996 compilation album Revolver (is the embed working for you, btw? Tell me in Discord :clint: )

Airsoft - Sawmill by Boberro (Ruha)
Just a presession, it did not count. It did not count!

Expressmen by Bodge (Ruha)
Fer's plan was simple - get to the dismount point, split in two teams, have one team, supported by a BTR pin enemies while another flanks and finishes them off.

It went as expected - we ran into enemies before reaching the dismount point, then technical difficulties made us lose the BTR. We still went with the plan, just with no BTR and managed to clear the first objective with no (permanent) loses.

Still split into two teams, we moved north to second objective.

From red team's perspective I was in, the biggest obstacle was a chain fence protecting enemy vehicles we were supposed to destroy - I suppose the slat armour is not a bad thing after all. Climbing nearby roofs and rocks didn't privide us with good elevation, so we had to charge in and strike them from up close, from the building under construction bordering with the objective. This spot was good enough for me to get hit by a backblast, but not yet good enough to destroy the target so we moved even closer. When Krok eventually got a good shot the explosion was massive and by the time we joined up Blue managed to secure and repair a BRDM we used to extract. Flawless victory!

Ground Team by Bodge (Livonia)
Another simple one: take out two machineguns and two Stinger launchers, get reinforced and be back home for Christmas.

Obviously it didn't got exactly as planned. Where we were supposed to stay as a one team, in chaos we split into two teams: one getting pinned by a machinegun outside the base and one running like headless chickens looking for targets. Some people got (skillfully) shot by friendlies, but luckily nobody died. When heavy weapons that could damage incoming Mi-8 were all seized and destroyed, we called reinforcements and waited.

Of course this part of the plan misfired as well! Helicopters ignored their paratrooper cargo and proceded to fire unguided missiles at enemies in Nadbór - well enough, but that meant we were to clear the town of enemy presence as well, before we could move to our second objective. And what a fun it was!

Urban combat tends to be chaotic, so we kept as tight as possible, moving through main street and trying to cover each another. That didn't help us too much when friendly choppers decided to bomb our positions, twice, but we were able to protect all wounded and nobody died. While we did their job, three of four helicopters finally decided to let their cargo go - one team using an surprise LZ to the north and two landing on their original LZ. Secondary objective was near deserted when we got there, probably fighting the paratroopers, so engineers (that'd be me and Krok) placed charges and so we won.

Pin by Teizan (Livonia)
Ok, this one did happen. We got wiped out and it was my fault. LDF might have different idea about how this mission went, of course.

Hasty by Fer (Malden)
Well, this mission requires a bit of fiddling and a competent leader. Which I am not. Also it's not easy to defend against a full company when there's only 6 of you, so I'll call this one an afterparty :)

Not only the enemy had numbers, they had vehicles (this our Bradley dealt with) and RPG's. It's not easy to privide machinegun fire when someone's firing thermobaric rockets at you.

First AAR in...literally a year minus two days! The last one is even still marked as [WIP].

I took no screenshots this session, and in fact arrived too late to participate in the non-mission, but just in time to participate in the start of the session, Expressmen! (As a note, I missed last session where there was a mission to which this one was apparently a sequel.)

For this one, I was put in charge of BOF group BluForce, largely consistent of our BTR, me with an Autorifle, and Bodge being preserved in reserve. We got to sit back a little bit for most of the mission, only advancing along roads while Red went along with their fancy-schmancy tactical maneuvers. Along the way, we upgraded from a BTR to a UAZ with an old soviet MG strapped to it, were scared by a ghost(ly BRDM), and successfully lost all of our new vehicle's ammunition in the BRDM's general direction, coincidentally killing it's crew. :owned:

I spent the rest of this mission providing Red with half-hearted cover as we gathered spare wheels for the BRDM, our newest chariot-to-be.

Next up was Ground Team, in which I was in charge. My first effective order was a tactical advance in an unobtrusive direction that was not forwards...until we reached a weak-point, where forwards movement happened collectively and simultaneously, generally called a charge! :eng101:
Everyone except the medic NedFox then vanished from my general vicinity at some point, and NedFox couldn't actually move at the time. We did eventually manage to kill all of the hostile Americans in the base, upon which point henceforward the mission was constantly overflown by helicopters, and we managed to regroup.

'Til the eventual urban combat got us separated all over again, anyway.

The mission was, unlikely enough, successful with no (permanent) casualties, no matter how hard or dramatically closely our allied helicopters or the enemy tried to change that! Good times.

Next up was Pin, an asymmetrical adversarial made by me. In this one, we (Krok and I), the two lone Livonian Defence Force riflemen stuck guarding a van, are pinned down by a Sniper, while his numerically-superior yet armament-inferior buddies move in to engage us directly (and maybe to loot the cocaine-loaded van, hell if we knew).

So we figured out our buildings, tried to find our defensive angles. Then the sniper pointed out he knew exactly where we were by trying to shoot through walls to tag us, so we got the hell out...into the semi-surprised compatriots of said sniper. :fry:
This honestly should have gone differently from our perspective, but we managed to shoot first (I hear one of them got trigger-clicks having not turned off their revolver's safety :cop: ) and took them all out with only injuries and no fatalities, whereupon - as the sniper had not joined the assault - the mission ended.

Then we played Hasty again where I (as Bradley Commander) spent the mission sitting nicely a long, long way away from enemies until mission-lead told us to get into close contact, probably because mission-lead was panicking and dying, since we didn't hear from him after.

(should have left them to their fates, I got turned into a bloodsplat. :psyboom: )
