[Sat] 13 May 2017 (Jogging is part of war)

Missions:
  • Field Day
  • Track
  • Assault
  • Svinets II
So ... a bijoux session. Boberro, Bormanov, Halop, Tasun and myself grabbed our AKs and went to war, but with such tiny numbers it was always likely to be long on hope and short on results.

Not when the enemy can see through marijuana plants, kiddo. Which is what happened to us in Field Day. Boberro's plan was to sneak up the dry riverbed until we were level with the northern compound, then sneak through a small hemp field and assault it. Unfortunately, whilst we couldn't see the enemy, they could see us. We exited the riverbed and almost immediately a frenzy of FAK action ensued, until eventually the enemy enveloped us from two sides and finished us off.

:siiigh:

Track was a new one that I'd written for the session, and given our numbers I broke with convention and took command myself. The basic idea was to quickly eliminate the enemy squad in the rocky corridor by means of tripwire mind and claymores, then defend from the expected counter-attack behind two concentric fans of claymore lines. The initial phase had some success: the mine worked and the adjacent claymores that Tasun laid down the track worked as well. Not knowing if the tail end of the enemy squad had been dealt with, I split our forces: Bormanov and Boberro covered the eastern exit whilst everyone else flanked around to sweep the corridor from the other side. This meant our stationary element was badly exposed when the counter-attack arrived far more quickly than anticipated. As we raced back along the corridor Tasun was killed by a survivor of the enemy squad, and though I reached the downed Bormanov and Boberro (after nearly stepping on an unexploded mine), I was killed by counter-attackers. Or maybe I stepped on that mine again? Not sure how Halop died.

:suicide:

Continuing our break with conventions, Boberro took command of Assault and immediately set us out on a plan to re-enact OFP. We drove through the mountains until we found a mysterious door in the hillside, and then ignored it (this isn't the fucking Hobbit) and set off on foot for the hillside hamlet west of the town. We came across a bunker with a DShKM, slaughtered its little garrison and commandeered the big gun. However, we were still taking sporadic fire from the north, so Boberro sent me and Halop towards the hamlet. We took out a handful of soldiers and eventually found ourselves in the hamlet itself, the rest of the crew having joined us. Weirdly, there are some red 3D arrows on the ground by a house there. Which is ... strange. Whatever. Anyway, Boberro wheeled our assault back towards the town and we were soon involved in a long range plinking match with the enemy mechanised infantry on the valley floor. Much FAK and smoke grenade action ensued, until finally there was just Tasun, Halop and myself covering behind a wrecked car. I made a run for it down the hill but was shredded by someone or something - maybe the little BMD?

:suicide:

Finally we played Svinets II, which is the one where we have to steal back the fuel trucks from the woods. To mix things up, we split our tiny numbers across an Solid Snake element (Boberro, Bormanov and Halop), and a mortar team (Tasun, myself and an obedient AI tube carrier). The plan was for Boberro to sneak about marking targets, and for Tasun to rain down fire on them. And it went brilliantly ... if by brilliantly you mean: almost everyone died and in the end Tasun was dropping mortars onto the fueld trucks so at least the enemy couldn't have them.

:psyboom:

Oh well. Thanks to those of you who made it. As Boberro said during Svinets II, we totally weren't jogging everywhere to stretch out the session because there were so few of us. Jogging is part of war, right?

I should've screenshotted the red arrows and the interesting thing they lead to.

Oh well, too bad.
