Missions:
We were a slightly smaller bunch this session. Regulars Boberro, Bormanov, Commander Teizan, Costno, myself, harakka, Kefirz, Tigershark, Thirith, and washington were joined by returning comrades BrightCandle (once of ARPS, now from Charlie Foxtrot) and intel64gamer (once of the mainland, now from ST).
In Svinetts III, 'call me Mr Mapcase' Kefirz commanded a sterling defence of the town during which almost none of our number were killed, and the BMP-2 gunner (me) proved that the enemy tank can be hit by practically every single AP round and not die. It was actually pretty accomplished stuff, considering how badly we are outnumbered in that mission, and I think it also proves that the humble BMP-2 is useful if you can hide it in a treeline. And wolfenswan isn't using some of his APMs to bomb you with a Mirage or something.
Next up, a new mission: washington's UNarmed. We said it at the time, and I'll repeat here - this needs to be released to the wider community, it's that good. I haven't played something with that much atmosphere since Outpost Kamenka (also by washington). The author himself was in charge, sending two fireteams into the maelstrom of the embattled town to rescue some civilians. Advancing in parallel along an MSR and alleyway, the two fireteams picked their way to the first site - only to find the bodies of massacred locals. Next, we pivoted north to a second site, but again all we found were bodies. The town itself was extremely hazardous, with enemy fighters popping up all over the place - no direction was safe, even the one from which we had come. Gradually, our numbers were reduced and our command structure suffered. Delta 1 lost Kefirz and washington himself was killed. For a time, that left Tigershark (D1) in charge of our outfit, and he ordered us to search the final site. Miraculously, my fireteam (still intact) found some civilians, but after asking them to follow me they promptly ran off, never to be seen again. More or less at the same time, harakka was killed and my team was down to 3. Tigershark asked if we were up for attacking the enemy mortar position south of us and the the consensus was 'yes', so what remained of our squad set off down the main road. Almost immediately, Tigershark was killed and I found myself in charge. Out of sheer bloody-mindedness, I continued our advance to the mortar, and though it cost us BrightCandle, we successfully dismantled it and a .50 cal before retreating to the UN ambulances. Peacekeepers lost: many; civilians rescued: none. But what a mission!

Pirates was also new, and also from washington. What can I say? When was the last time you saw a US Navy carrier run aground, listing badly and with a deck covered in objects that included a tractor? Well, it only gets more complicated! Whilst Tigershark and Tasun donned their best naval aviator cosplay outfits and snuck onto a nearby Marine airbase, the rest of us took to our high-speed boats and did our best impression of Somali pirates. You know, the kind that get within a few yards of the ship and are then riddled with bullets by the on-board security detachment. To be fair, Kefirz made it aboard (and then died), but my team was just so many corpses in a rib. Meanwhile, Tigershark killed everyone at the hanger, stole Chinook and made it to the loitering point alive!
So we spawned in some SAM units and shot him out of the sky. Because we love you, Tigershark.

Then we went to Malden, for a run of Boberro's OFP mission remake, Assault. Now it has to be said that BrightCandle reminded us that in OFP, our side is supposed to have tanks. But hey, that would make things fair. Instead, we had washington's plan: take the first outpost, smoke the enemy town, and advance directly across the slightly less open ground. Of course, nobody's minds turned to this:
NB We did make it to the town, but the enemy counter-attacked with a BMP-2 and a Shilka, and though we managed to rocket the latter, the former just turned the houses into so much rubble until we were all dead. Hey-ho.
We made BrightCandle lead a round of Old Men, next. His plan was simple and direct: two fireteams advancing west along parallel streets, set up some APs near the airfield (what is an AP?), and then advance to the helicopters and freedom! It was perfect. Except for the part where CO and medic were incapacitated 20m from the mosque, and someone (I'm not looking at you, washington) panic-shot our only pilot (Costno).

We did some dying in the stormy jungles of Tanoa again, this time in the ambush mission Track. Washington was in command, and foolishly followed the mission maker's recommendation to create an ambush in the 'tunnel' and a claymore defence line fan pointed towards the village. Unfortunately, my use of the word 'tunnel' was inaccurate and the ambush team strayed too far west until it contacted the very patrol it was supposed to ambush. And then the enemy counter-attack appeared and murderised us all because they are all The Predator. It's true!
Our time in Zargabad this session wasn't all death. Well, not all our deaths. Tigershark asked for a run of Su Casa Es Mi Casa, and we duly parachuted into the environs of the villa. Landing to the south, Tiger sent some ARs to set up an ambush for the cops, whilst the rest of us took on the guard post. Pretty soon we were storming the villa, and it was looking very good. Then Tasun was shot by defenders coming from the barracks, and kefirz ... well, I actually don't know WTF happened to kefirz ... something about an exploding cop car? Anyway, we secured all the buildings and then went for a stroll in the garden to find and liquidate the sole remaining defender.

We closed out with a heroic - but tragic - defence of Outpost Kamenka. In an effort worthy of a Russian film, we survived for 14 minutes and killed well over 100 enemy fighters. But as the rescue bird touched down only three of us remained: washington was bleeding out, I was shot crawling to his aid, and Costno ... I don't know what happened to Costno. But nobody made it out.

See you next time, space cowboy!
