Missions played:
  • ACE3 Training Session
  • Crossing
  • Assault
  • EZPZ (Part 1 out of 1)
  • Hasty
This week was the first session in which we tried out ACE3. It went well enough for people not to disconnect mid-session, and even Harry was positive. Now if only Egg was here to try out glorious new mac clicking...

Based on my limited ACE experience today, my only worry at this point is the risk of the added complexity alienating people who only play very occasionally. But then I'm one of those people and I'm cool with this, so unless there's someone worse than me then it's not a concern :P

I'm not really "into" ARMA, it's my 2nd love next to the MMORPG I play now for 11+ years.

The complexity added, as long as I stick to basic stuff, will not scare me away, even at my age; more immersion, even if it requires going through menu's, is something that will attract more people TBH, unless they're old and grumpy like me.

The NV *did* put me off; I don't care much about maps and nighttime but that nightvision is something I really, really, didn't like.

I might have a simple request: Can one of you mission makers setup a ton of crap up in 1 place, so we can join the server, select that mission and fool around with stuff on our own?
I failed to find the "safety off" , the loading of mortars and taking wheels off cars and them putting in a pile is something that requires me to test it a lot.
I also need to remap some keys (left CTRL is my PPT key) and would like to test it without throwing grenades on everyone in a normal session :)

tl;dr: I liked it, will use basic stuff so it doesn't confuse me too much.
Of course I did record it if you want to see for yourselves : https://www.twitch.tv/nedfox

While I completely forgot to take screenshots, I can't say there's anything I didn't like about ACE in this first session. Even the barely functional NVGs - they (along with a shoot everything type of attempt) made EZPZ a whole new mission for me.

Not being able to set medical setup to 3D Selection bugged me though.

I agree completely with regard to the NVG's, that mission was just straight up horrible. You need additional IR flashlights or a full moon to make that generation of NVG's to work. And as Bob said in the chat, for coops we should use the best gen there is and for adversarials we can experiment with being a ragtag force that needs a visit to the optometrist.

And yeah, the complexity combined with the clunky-ness (in my opinion) of the ACE interface makes it a less sleek experience, but if we go with the crawl-walk-run approach and do basic stuff at start, we should be fine.
