ACRE without Admin (advanced users only)

Post by daf » Wed Mar 20, 2013 7:04 pm

Although the simplest method to run ACRE is to simple run both TS3 and ARMA 2 as Admin I didn't like the fact that got the UAC prompt every time and had to lose my steam overlay (non elevated steam overlay can't attach to an elevated process).

As such I looked around for a way to work around it, as such what i found is that if you set full permissions on two log files:

Code: Select all

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\JayArma2Extension.log
C:\Program Files\TeamSpeak 3 Client\acre.log
You will have to run TS3/ARMA2 as Admin first to create the log files and then simply go to both files and add full permissions to the "Everyone" user ( How to change permissions guide). After that you should be able to run it as a normal user, this is how I've been running ACRE for some time now and I have not noticed any issue, hopefully in the future acre will no longer try to write files into protected system directories and bypass the need for any workaround.

For those that simply want to have steam overlay wile running ARMA2 as admin the solution is to simply run steam itself as Admin.
