EU session timing

Post by fer » Sun Jun 13, 2010 7:21 pm

Time to start thinking about when to schedule the EU folk session (if there is interest, a US session might make sense too). Couple of thoughts up front from me:
  • Assuming a target duration of 2 hours, I'd like to shoot for a start time of 20:00 UK / 21:00 CET; hopefully that gives those guests with children ample time to get home from work, put them to bed and grab a bite to eat
  • My guess is that Friday and Saturday are poor days to shoot for, particularly if you have lots of RL commitments
  • A fair few people here right now are active members of Shack Tactical, which holds an EU session on Wednesday nights; I can't see the point of creating a scheduling conflict for guests from the start
  • Sunday night might offer the best chance of getting US-based guests involved
So what are your thoughts on both days and times?

2 hours : Absolutely fine with this.
Friday & Saturday : Perhaps not best, but I don't see them as being a huge issue from my perspective. It is, however, unlikely to be good for others. I think this being a weekday is probably best.
Wednesday EU Session : I doubt it's going to continue much longer, for a number of reasons I obviously can't go into here :)
Sunday : Sunday 20:00GMT is the ShackTac IL-2 session, which I will be playing. I think Headspace may fall into that category too.

I think Tuesday/Thursday could be great. It fits all the criteria, but the unfortunate part is the timezone issues. I think it's extremely important that no member should be presented with an undesirable timezone issue - after all, folk is designed to be accommodating to schedules, rather than something you need to make special time for. Saturday early on cuts out the IL-2 session, but could be a problem for those of us in ST (I doubt I could play ArmA2 for the folk session and then the ST session), while Sunday a little later is perhaps good (IL-2 session generally ends around 8:30pm), and potentially covers all assuming that people are OK with an 12am CET end when the next day is Monday.

Tues/Thurs 20.00 on is ok for EU sessions but a Sunday night is really better for me (and I'm guessing Sunday afternoon (US time) is better for our US friends

Tuesday's are a no go for me strictly because of work, but Thursdays are good. Sundays would be tough for me personally because I usually don't get home until mid morning from work, so consequently I always seem to sleep in late Sundays.

If the possibility of Wednesdays opens up, that is another day that would be good for me. Basically right now if Monday, Wednesday, Thursday as being my best options.

With apologies to Oakley, Sunday is starting to feel like the most viable option for now - since it gives us the best chance of involving NA-based guests as well. How do people feel about: Sunday 21:30 CET / 20:30 UK / 14:30 EST (and then running for 2 hours)?

While not my first choice, Sundays are perfectly fine. I'm sure I can drag my ass out of bed before 14:30 :)

I'm fairly sure it's not that hard Oakley :D And it's after IL-2, works for me. To be fair, it's summer, 4:30 AM would work for me either.

Unless anyone objects, I'm going to work on the basis that we're running with a Sunday 21:30 CET start time (and a 2 hour session).

Onwards :hist101:
