Missions:
  • Outpost Kamenka
  • Ascent
  • Podgotovka
  • Cholo (Santa edition)
  • Zelenyy I
A huge, huge thank you to all the citizens and foreign military advisers that took time out of their festive duties to don santa suits and shoot things (and each other). More words to follow, but first, two photos (from Bodge and Boberro) that - for me - capture Folk in its first year as a Republic. The first is from an unofficial session approximately one year ago, the second was taken last night in the 23 Dec 2017 (Santagruppa) session.

Also, some important thank you messages to people who have made this year of continued Folk possible (in sort of 'by appearance' order):

Bodge: Who, despite being a Bodgist, gave us all shelter on his island, and allowed us to re-invent ourselves as a thriving, capitalist society that manufactures affordable white goods for overseas export. We wouldn't still exist but for his momentary lapse in grumpiness.

Boberro: Who has become a technical powerhouse, and whose labours (and expenditure) have given us the servers, the repo, and countless little tweaks to the addons that make the modern day Folk experience what it is. And by 'modern day' I mean, of course, 1970s Russia. But, seriously, none of this year's sessions would have happened without this man.

Head and Snippers: Who lent us their technical expertise, and even some Nazi technologies, so that we could kickstart our manufacturing economy and overtake the Mainland with superior industrial output and quality in all areas.

Kefirz: Who, in his lust for power a map case, has stepped up to become a host. Obviously, it hasn't stopped him complaining about everything all the time, but now he can actually do something about it!

Brightcandle, and the military advisers from Charlie Foxtrot: Who put up with our merciless teasing about cosplay, but have made us better Arma players through osmosis - although we continue to be the world's most disppointing students, because we are super-meta and are, in fact, cosplaying corrupt ARVN officers.

Commander Teizan, Costno, Intel64gamer, Kalelovil, Toppometer, washington and wolfenswan: who have worked tirelessly to create a mission stockpile that, as I write this with a week to go in 2017, has reached 95 in under a year (with some contributions from Boberro and myself included). This is something to be really proud of, citizens.

And finally, to all citizens and military advisers who have come to the Folk sessions: thank you.

:v:

Merry Christmas! And stuff! I got unhealthy amounts of chocolate.

Only seven days to make five missions to break the 100 a year mark. Maybe I should make cheap stuff, or post bad missions I stopped working on. Because 100 is all is that matters, quality control be damned.

Kamenka was the first mission of the day, and I was accidentally Squad Leader. Not that it mattered, on Kamenka, except my minelaying plan got Halop killed by Landmine (even after posting NO ENTRY all over the mines!) Much shooting, and I think I died by helicopter.

Ascent, the Maldenian Armed Forces and 3IFB joint hiking party, went at walking pace. Our peaceful expedition was then interrupted and harassed by some lunatic in a Santa costume throwing explosive presents. Having guns, we decided not to call the police and to just shoot him ourselves, but he managed to escape. That day was the day I discovered that many people have a phobia of explosive presents.
Mortar team managed to shoot themselves on this one, panic firing when the lunatic's also-santa accomplice ran at them screaming obscenities. Or something like that.

Podgotovka was the big one.

This mission, A Ferstabinde work, was all about multiple hundreds (more than two or something) of AI, with many friendlies bound by High Command or Support modules. Kefirz was the CO, I was the FO/FAC (in charge of Artillery and when to call CAS), A BMD (named Tank rather than AV1 for some reason) was commanded by Kalelovil (who disconnected a lot this mission), and the Infantry Squad Leader was...Boberro, I think. The CF guys formed ST1.

The mission started with early reconnaissance and setup, where the CO, FAC, and ST1 headed by UAZ to a hill with a view of the AO, while everyone else formed up with the Bronegruppa force. We got up there, looked at stuff, noticed the high amounts of infantry, occasional Statics, and non-existent enemy armour, before ST1 began potshooting and I started setting targets for Artillery before Kefirz eventually called in the full assault.

I'm too lazy (and forgetful) to describe the 1 hour+ mission in further depth, but there were many helicopters, many GPs-not-Artillery-shells, much destruction of Civilian targets, and there was only one player casualty (Boberro) after my judicious application of GPs to enemy/civilian targets.
Ask the ST1/CF guys, I proved to them that I was only firing GPs at urban areas. There were no 152mm HE shells at all. No matter what anybody else says. (WP is bloody useless.)

Santa Cholo was quick, and I killed Snippers before getting shot in the back after taking audio cues from the wrong floor.

Then there was Zelenyy, which was also quick. Because we all died.
