Once again, wonderful turnout from everyone (15?), even though several of our regular attendees were away. Thank you to everyone who came along, and in particular to those who took leadership positions for the first time with folk (Viper S7, Redroth, Jefke). Now, we need some tougher missions ...
In 10+ playthroughs of this mission, we've never even made it into the red area. So I was certain that Tigershark would have to deliver his 'private webcam dance' to all guests after getting everyone killed. That, and when I wrote this mission, I was mostly mumbling 'I hate players' to myself, over and over again, in a scene that went something like this:
However, in the event, Tigershark pushed us out further than ever before. Starting with his (and General Carver's) patented plan of drawing the enemy onto us at a compound on the south-east of the district, we sustained many injuries but still soaked up several infantry assaults. Carver destroyed an incoming M113, and soon Tigershark's 'secondary force' (now under Carver, after DM had been fatally wounded), set off east to clear a path to the oil installations and riverbed beyond.
At the last moment, I was attached to Carver's force, joining them at an isolated compound. Over TeamSpeak, I heard as Tigershark and others at our original strongpoint prepared to disengage and follow us. Meanwhile, Carver sent Mason forward (but prevented me from joining 'the guinea pig'), and our young comrade sprinted across the dimly-lit open ground between us and the oil installation. Soon enough, Mason was under fire, and though I dropped a dark figure out in the field, the enemy retribution was swift, deadly, and mounted on the top of an M113.
From the spectator script I watched as Tigershark led the bulk of the force to within yards of the large oil platform, the riverbed a mere stone's throw beyond. Sadly, enemy troops were waiting, and in the ensuing firefight all our comrades were injured or killed. Moments later Carver too was cut down, and the mission ended. I salute Tigershark's effort, and give you Tina Turner's private dancer video instead. Enjoy this one comrades, you've all earned it!
Good grief. Goofers and Tina Turner. Who would have thought. I think this mission taught me that when you are surrounded, out gunned, and the enemy has armor and you don't. The best bet is to fortify your position, take high ground and start thinning out the enemy in the direction you want to go.
We need to work on a little bit of accuracy for our comrades. I think each session should start off with a 10 or 15 min (before the actual session time) map where we can target shoot with weapons. The iron sight weapons in the game are perfectly capable of accurate shot placement even out to 300m, our guys were a little rusty. No matter, we'll try this one again.
Accuracy over volume fire. Accuracy Comrades. This is how we shall achieve our victory over the infidel. Make each shot count for State and Allah.
